There’s a lot of doubt that Kevin McCarthy will be able to get enough votes to become Speaker. It certainly won’t happen on the first ballot. Already Boboert and MTG are publicly at odds over it.

Maybe this is worth it’s own thread to watch. One person mentioned is Scalise.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - you either have a majority or you do not.

For most intents and purposes, there is no GOP majority in the House. And they don't have the kind of leadership it takes to solidify one.

Pelosi managed to lead. It can be done, just not by the caliber of people the Rs are sending to DC.

Dollars to donuts, the Republicans would not only rescind the cuts, they'll increase funding when they're in power. They only want a strong government when they're in power, or more specifically a strong intelligence apparatus. They'll eviscerate the agencies they don't like, i.e. Dept of Education, HUD, etc.

Ken Buck is leaving today. He had even signed the ukraine aid discharge motion. Think another R announced he's leaving at the end of the month as well.

On another note, if this is another CR and not long-term bill (I'm pretty sure it's not a CR), that forking sucks. I could never be president because I would make clear, "send me a budget or be prepared to have a two-thirds vote to override my veto."

GOP is about to lose another Rep in April. They can keep forking around and the Dems could just elect Jefferies.

That would flip everything on its head. If they gain a majority before the election, they can get some sheet passed. Of course the Republicans will just block everything in the Senate.
