Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

What's the point of this? Do you think Russia started the war over 2 years ago because America in the last 3 months has decided Ukraine can join NATO?

Do you really think Russia invented time travel?

Also stop trying to change the subject, lets keep talking about what a massive hypocrite you are. The "principle position" you have that only shows up under democratic presidents.
The point is you said that in today's current climate that the US is unsure about adding Ukraine to NATO.

Blinken said that Ukraine will be joining NATO. Maybe you would have known that if you got your news from Tucker or Glenn.

I'm changing the subject by replying to your post in this thread about NATO/Ukraine? Do you know what thread this is?

Lol yeah. It's a rabbit hole chase.

There is legitimate criticism from yeltsin's foreign minister, lavrov's former boss that the us focused too little on Russia after the soviet union collapse. He asked Bush Sr and Clinton for more aid and investment to stem further economic hardship. His argument was that had the us been more proactive, the improved economic state in Russia may had boosted the liberals standing like himself and the late nemtsov. We didn't help.

At that point, I think our focus was to eliminate the nukes and Chem weapons, then do some victory dance. After the Budapest memorandum, we just didn't put focus in Ukraine. Julia ioffe thinks we didn't cover Ukraine enough until it became apparent that Russia was belligerent to Georgia and the little green men in crimea. Even then, putin was slapped on the wrist. A light tap.

At least you talked Julia Ioffe and not Anne Applebaum, who SFL swears is connected to CIA/Mi6. lol

America changed it's mind on Ukraine in the last 3 months. Please try and tell the board again that this was the casus belli for Russia's invasion.

This was actually the reason why Russia freaked out, and invaded.

SFL is so conservative boomer American he can't contemplate a world were two European countries went to war over European interest, and influence. What a sad sad sad man, very sad, some say the saddest.
I think I've covered this one in the Seymour hersh thread. A little time before all this, great natural gas and oil fields were discovered in the Caspian sea and black sea off the Ukrainian coast. Azerbaijan didn't want to run pipelines through Russia, so they explored alternatives. One was through Georgia and then to turkey, eventually supplying Europe. Of course european energy supplies were dominated by russia with pipelines through Ukraine. The threat of competition was real. So he started some bogus red flag attack and afterwards made excuse to send his army into Georgia. At the time, Georgia was seeking nato membership. But one of the bylaws is that prospective members cannot join if there are military conflicts. It makes sense as that automatically means nato will declare war. And putin knows that as soon as a state joins nato, they will be protected. So he preemptively attacked Georgia and basically ended that pipeline from Azerbaijan through Georgia. That made that pipeline much more expensive and dangerous to reroute. But they eventually flipped the bird at putin.

Similarly to Georgia, ukraine too sought nato membership. This was at about the same time as Georgia. Western companies lined up to invest in oil rigs off of ukraine, and I think some had begun developing. The maiden happened, and the possibility of ukraine as a competitor and charging higher fees for the pipelines that run through it is high. It's a real threat to his very lucrative enterprise. The maidan was a mortal danger. Not long after little green men assaulted Crimea, and a few months after, we have "rebellions" in eastern ukraine. I quoted rebellion as a russian...forgetting his name...has recently boasted that Russian military had infiltrated and started an armed insurrection. Ukraine responded and with eminent defeat, putin sent the Russian army in and pretty much defeated the Ukrainian army. Sad times as the Ukrainians after a truce was suppose to allow for a peaceful withdrawal. The Russians betrayed that agreement and bombarded an unarmed retreating army. So with that, ukraine too was denied nato entry as a war is on its doorstep.

    Yeah, putin the mafia don.

Lol. Watch me....hang on. Give me a sec to find that post.
I've posted it multiple times. She's on the board of NED which is a CIA cutout. I posted a NYT article saying NED is linked to the CIA.

Applebaum also got caught red-handed serving as a secret "Inner Cluster Cell" member of a busted British intelligence operation set up for covert censorship & political warfare operations known as the Integrity Initiative.

    I know yall love her.

But you thought that was their current position lol. You are 4 months behind.

Waiting on those anti-war post son.

I can give you of my own that goes against the Biden administration position immediately.

    From the Israel thread:

I really wish we would stay out of this conflict completely. Israel is an apartheid state in a race war. I don't want to supply either side of this conflict.

If saying it would only make it so.
SECRETARY BLINKEN: It’s very good to be with my friend and colleague Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine. We just came from a session with all NATO Allies and Foreign Minister Kuleba, and I think it’s safe to say that the support for Ukraine, the determination of every country represented here at NATO remains rock solid. We will do everything we can; Allies will do everything that they can to ensure that Ukraine has what it needs to continue to deal with Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, an aggression that gets worse with every passing day. And we’ve seen that just in the month of March with thousands of missiles, rockets, projectiles launched at Ukrainians and Ukraine’s cities and towns, its electricity grid – and that continues.
We’re also here at NATO to talk about the summit that’s upcoming in the summer in Washington, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Alliance. Ukraine will become a member of NATO. Our purpose of the summit is to help build a bridge to that membership and to create a clear pathway for Ukraine moving forward. We’ve done a lot of work on that over the last couple of days here in Brussels, a lot more work to be done between now and the summit, but we will see, I think, at the summit very strong support for Ukraine going forward and its relationship with NATO.

Was this bi-lateral statement really news worthy? I guess it would be if you're Tucker/Greenwald and this all you got from Blinken's statement...
    ☢️☢️☢️UKRAINE WILL BECOME A MEMBER OF NATO☢️☢️☢️
...and then proceeded to ignore everything else that was said.

If saying it would only make it so.

It's definitely newsworthy when the US Secretary of State says that Ukraine will be joining NATO.

I'm aware that his statement doesn't automatically make Ukraine a member of NATO.

Just to humor us all. despite nato accepting those eastern states into nato, nato doesn't have nukes or permanent bases in the Baltic, Poland, romania, etc. Nato was very careful not to antagonize Russia. These countries begged to join. Not nato seeking them out. They had rotating army groups, yes, but not permanent. The permanent bases are us bases in Germany. It only took a full scale invasion of ukraine for things to change. The us now has permanent bases in romania and Poland. Finland and Sweden joined. Why? because they feared the bully.

I'll make this simple so that a 3rd grader can understand. We have a bully who is much bigger than everyone on the playground. He had already beaten up a few. But there is another big kid. He's not perfect, as he did punch some kids...but overall he's quite friendly. The smaller kids got together with him and made a defensive vow. If anyone attacks any of them, they will all rush in to help. The bully finds out and says...ooo....you can't do that (really this isn't true). To prove his point, he decks out another kid that isn't part of that vow group. That is OKAY!! according to some \o/? Really, none of this nato motivation is true....but unprovoked wars is ok just not for america....according to some....

Says the guy who pointed to the whitewashed Winter of Fire documentary to show what really happened in Ukraine.

NATO wasn't the reason for Russia invading Ukraine and we had no involvement in the coup with Ukraine.

If I remember correctly, Putin stated that the reason he invaded Ukraine was to stop the Nazi's or some such BS. His only true reason was for territorial gain.
He started out with that piece of propaganda and then switched to the NATO angle. He just says whatever he thinks will fool shills.
